Thompson Island Outward Bound

Thompson Island Outward Bound Education Center Mission:

Thompson Island Outward Bound is a not-for-profit organization whose primary purpose is to provide adventurous and challenging experiential learning programs that inspire character development, compassion, community service, environmental responsibility and academic achievement. Our organization principally serves early adolescents from all economic and social communities of greater metropolitan Boston, and the institutions and adults who support them.

Thompson Island Outward Bound Summer Learning Program:

The Summer Learning Program is a unique alternative to summer school for Boston Public School students. The program offers an innovative blend of academics and enrichment activities while immersing students in the natural world of the island’s forests, beaches, meadows and marshes. Thompson Island partnered with the National Park Service, Orchard Gardens K-8 School and John Marshall Elementary School to serve 160 students over the 2011 summer season.
