Shabazz Academy

Shabazz Academy, named after Betty Shabazz, services students in grades 3-5. The students come to school each day proudly wearing navy and yellow to show their PRIDE for their school. Students earn PAWs for demonstrating their ability to showcase Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Daring, and Excellence while at school. Shabazz Academy works to build a culture of trust and achievement while preparing our students to be college bound.

While at school students are taught by highly qualified, engaging teachers who are dedicated to giving our students the best possible education. They use the Pearson’s Envisions program for math instruction and Reading Street for ELA instruction. In order to support daily classroom instruction, teachers meet up to 150 minutes each week as grade level and content area teams in order to share best practices and develop rigorous and engaging lessons.

Instruction is also supported through a variety of afterschool programs, including City Year and BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life). Both of these programs work to transform the academic achievements and self-confidence of the students through their small-group academic instruction, mentorship, and a wide range of enrichment activities.
